10 Places to Download AudioBooks for FREE

January 27, 2016

Do you like listening to audiobooks?

They use to be crazy expensive, bulky, and an all around hassle to listen to, but in today’s digital world, they can be an awesome reading alternative. I shared my favorite reasons to listen to audiobooks in this post, but today, I wanted to share ten places you can download audiobooks for free.

Oh No! My website ate this blog post!!
I am so sorry! I am working on re-building it. Thank you for your patience.

10 Places to Download AudioBooks for FREE

#1. Loyal Books

This site use to be known as Books Should Be Free, but it is now Loyal Books. It offers free public domain audiobooks & eBook downloads. It allows you to sort books by genre, search for specific books, and more. It’s a great system with a well laid out design, and it even shows you the average star rating of each of the books. The best part is, there is no membership required. You can listen online or choose which type of file you would like download with just the click of a button. It doesn’t get any better than this. http://www.loyalbooks.com/

#2. Project Gutenberg

This website features free eBooks that aren’t copyrighted in the US. However, they also have a selection of audiobooks you can download. It’s a free site and actually partners with some of the other online book sites to broaden both libraries.  You can check out their audiobooks here.

#3. LibriVox

LibriVox is a website for free public domain audiobooks. They are read by volunteers around the world, in fact, you can volunteer to become a reader, which is pretty neat. Or just listen to one of their books on your computer, iPod, or other device. You can find out more here.

#4. Storynory

Storynory is a website geared mainly towards children’s audiobooks. But if you have kids, it’s an awesome resource. Their actors read myths, fairy tales, and original series. You can check it out here: http://www.storynory.com/

#5. Learn Out Loud

#6. Librophile

Librophile claims to have 100,000+ free digital books on their site, many of which are audiobooks. You can find their free audiobooks here: http://www.librophile.com/#!/audiobooks/popular/free

#7. Free Audiobooks HQ

This is actually an app for your iPhone that has over 8,500 free audiobooks available. This is by far the best free audiobook app we have come across, but I will also mention that Audiobooks (a separate app) is showing promise as well. They recently added over 1,000 new audiobooks to their library. So if you have an iPhone and love audiobooks, you may check out both apps and see which is best for you.

#8. Podiobooks

While this website lacks a search feature, they do have some unique audiobooks that could broaden your listening options. You can choose from Featured Titles, Top Rated Titles, and New Releases. Within those three categories, you can narrow it down to sort by genre (supposedly).  I tried to look for non-fiction books, and all I got were fiction titles, so I’m not real sure how reliable their sorting works. And, as I mentioned, there is no search option at all. So This really isn’t a great option, but if you’re looking for something new, it is an option.

#9. The Internet Archive

The Internet Archive is something that I just stumbled across, but it looks super promising. They have over 12,000 audiobooks / readings available. All of them are categorized so you can easily find books that appeal to you. It’s awesome.

#10. Audible

While audible isn’t geared directly towards free audiobooks, they do have many free books available. And if you sign up for a free trial membership, you can get two free audiobooks. If you decided to keep your subscription, you get to read one audiobook a month for just $14.99. That’s not too bad since many audiobooks run twenty dollars or more. But, as I mentioned, they do have many free audiobooks as well. You can find all the books that are currently free on audible here (always verify the price yourself before clicking to buy/download).
