Do you ever wish you had more time to read?
I know I do!
However, I have found the perfect solution: AudioBooks.
AudioBooks are a great way to read, when you really can’t curl up and put your nose in a book.
In this post, I share some situations that are perfect for listening to audiobooks.
8 Reasons to Listen to Audiobooks
- You spend a ton of time in the car.
If you spend hours in your car on long trips or on a daily commute to work/school, it can be a great time to listen to audiobooks. While I don’t spend a ton of time in my car, my husbands favorite time to “read” is in the car on his way to and from work each day. And one of my favorite family road trips of all-time was one where we plugged in an audiobook for an 11-hour car ride.
- To exercise your body and mind at the same time.
This is when I listen to audiobooks the most often myself. If you can plug in an audiobook to listen to while walking or running, it’s a great way to exercise your body and mind at the same time (and you don’t have to worry about tripping because you have your nose in a book).
- You have to clean your house.
Seriously, cleaning is not one of my favorite tasks. But listening to an audiobook while washing dishes or folding laundry can make a mundane task much more enjoyable. And, let’s face it, your family is pretty sure that those mundane tasks need to be done on a regular basis.
- It’s supper time, and you’re the cook.
I know I already mentioned listening to an audiobook while doing the dishes, but you can also listen to a book while you are cooking supper, making lunches, or mopping the floor. Trying to read a book while cooking is one of the main reasons I burn supper, so audiobooks allow me to read AND keep an eye on our entrée.
- You aren’t quite ready for bed.
I love reading before bed, but sometimes I just can’t keep my eyes open, even though I’m not really ready to sleep yet. Audiobooks are a great way to let your eyes rest, and distract your mind from all the things you did or didn’t do throughout the day. If you are worried about falling asleep, pick an audiobook you have read before or plan to read again. That way if you miss something it’s not a big deal.
- You have a migraine.
I suffer from chronic migraines. I have for years. I know what causes them, but they aren’t completely avoidable. And when you have a migraine, sometimes you just need to close your eyes. Audiobooks are a great way to fill the silence, especially since you can control the volume.
- It’s bath-time.
If you have ever dropped a paperback in the bathtub, you totally understand this. Being able to start an audiobook and leave it a safe distance from the tub can make a bath much more relaxing. And you can even listen while taking a shower if you can turn the volume up loud enough (yes, this is experience talking).
- Just because you want to.
Those are seven of my favorite times to listen to audiobooks. However, you don’t really need a reason to listen to audiobooks. So reason number eight is really just because you want to. Because, really, who needs a reason to read?
I would love to hear from you!
