For most of my life the best part of waking up really has been Folgers in my cup.
I am a coffee addict and Folgers is my brand… or at least it has been for for the past 30+ years of my life.
My History with Folgers…
When I was little, we’re talking 4 or 5 years old, I remember staying at my grandparents’ house while my mom was at school finishing her degree.
They lived right next to the meat locker they owned and operated, and my favorite part of the day was 10 AM when my older sister and I got to go over for coffee break. My grandpa would pour me a small cup of Folgers coffee with a ton of sugar and Coffee-mate creamer. I felt so grown up and special.
I’ve been a Folgers girl ever since.

The Trouble with Folgers…
At first, I thought one of my migraine medications was messing with my taste buds. So I asked my husband if he thought the coffee tasted off. He did.
It must have just been a bad brew.
Thus, I dumped it and tried again. Nope, still nasty.
So we cleaned our coffee pot thinking maybe something got in there.
So, we tossed the whole container of coffee grounds and purchased another.
As soon as I opened it I knew it was wrong. Instead of inhaling the wonderful aroma of Folgers that I had come to know and love over the years, my nose was assaulted. It almost smelled like the beans had been burnt.
I went ahead and brewed a pot, just to see… but sure enough, it was all for not and we tossed a second can of grounds.
Holding Out for Folgers…
Now, I have to remind you that I’ve been drinking Folgers for a really long time. Thus, instead of assuming Folgers was to blame, I assumed that our small-town grocery store must have gotten a bad shipment and had my husband pick some up at a different store out of town.
I’m sure you can guess, and I’m sorry to say, it was bad as well.
I really wanted coffee that day, so on my way out of town with a friend, I asked her to stop by the gas station so I could grab a cup of joe. My friend got a latte, and insisted on paying for my plain cup of coffee (with Coffee-mate creamer).
And when we got back out to the car and I took a drink I almost gagged. It never occurred to me that gas stations use Folgers coffee… but of course they do. Yuck!
It’s Not Just Me…
Finally, I was ready to admit that my beloved Folgers might really be the issue. Thus, my husband started some online research. Turns out, scores of people were up in arms about Folgers changing their product. (See here and here just for a couple examples. You can also find reviews on Folgers website saying the same thing.)
It wasn’t just me. Folgers made a change that ruined many of my mornings and left me wondering where to go from here.
So Folgers, if you’re reading this, I just want you to know that I have loved you my whole life, but you’ve broken my trust and I just can’t see you anymore.
